A quote to chew on...

From Steve Gilliard's News Blog, regarding the predictable right-wing outrage parade following Coretta Scott King's funeral:

George Bush betrayed America, especially black America with his failed response to Katrina, why should he be allowed to sit before black America and go unscolded for his failure?

This is not the Minnesota Dems, we don't care about your Jedi Mind Tricks. Your opinion means less than nothing.

This is the sort of scolding I think we "Minnesota Dems" need. Our tendency to hem and haw and ultimately back down when faced with our political opponent's horseshit is part of the reason I wrote this, after all. We want to debate politely with people who wish we didn't exist. We want to be collegial with people who say terrible things about us. We don't want to fight, we want to enlighten. But the trouble is that today's right doesn't want what we have to offer, they have no interest in compromising and even less interest in being our friends. We don't look good when we let cheap ideological bullies, shallow "libertarians", and outright bigots push us around. It's time to give all that up, I think. Otherwise it'll be Mark Kennedy and Norm Coleman and whatever other hucksters they throw up until we become a colder, woodsier Kansas...
